배철 Bae Cheol

본인은 강릉을 기반으로 활동하고 있다. 강릉시 용강동에서 2021년부터 2024년까지 용강동 12통 통장을 역임해 왔다. 4년간의 권력의 자리에 머무르며 동네를 아우르는 포용력을 보여 동네에서 용강동 보안관이라는 이명으로 불리우기도 한다. 2024년 겨울, 권력의 덧없음을 느낀 본인은 통장직을 미련없이 떠나보내는 쿨한 모습을 보여주기도 했다. 현재 용강동의 시간을 담아낸 용강실록을 집필 중에 있다.

I have made my base in Gangneung, where from 2021 to 2024 I bore the mantle of Tongjang (the neighborhood head) of the 12th precinct of Yonggang-dong. For four years I lingered in a seat of modest power, exercising an embrace that gathered together the rhythms of the community. In those days, I came to be called—half in jest and half in respect—the “Sheriff of Yonggang-dong.” Yet in the winter of 2024, with a wry smile, I felt the futility of power settle upon me like frost, and I released the post with a coolness that left no trace of regret. Now, with time itself as my subject, I am composing the Annals of Yonggang (Yonggang Sillok), a chronicle that seeks to preserve the breath and passage of this place.
